Officials report an overwhelming positive response from children and parents alike.
Patna: In a move to make air travel more enjoyable for families, the Airports Authority of India (AAI) has set up a dedicated ‘kids play area’ at the Jayprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna. The play zone is strategically located in the security hold area near Boarding gate no. 12A, ensuring it is easily accessible post-security checks. The space offers a favourite play area to little travellers, where kids can engage in active play while parents can get a chance to unwind nearby. The area features soft, interlocking foam mats in bright hues of red, yellow, blue, and green, creating a playful atmosphere.According to AAI officials, children can enjoy sliding down gentle slopes, basketball, swing, colourful crawling tunnel, see-saw, swing ride-ons, and bouncing on a small trampoline surrounded by protective barriers. A colourful ball pit invites toddlers to dive in and explore, while cosy rocking toys in the form of various animals provide gentle, imaginative fun. An easel drawing board is an added attraction for many kids.
Tiny colourful chairs are placed around for short breaks, and cheerful wall decorations carry simple, positive messages that encourage good habits in a playful way.Joint GM of ATM (air traffic management) and safety investigation coordinator, Uma Shankar, said the response from the children and their parents has been overwhelming. “The facility started this month at the airport. It is more like an educational zone with fun activities and games.
We have ample area to accommodate the kids and their parents. Airport staff are deployed to ensure safety and proper management,” he told TOI on Monday. The airport officials said, “The overall setup blends entertainment with learning opportunities, allowing kids to stay occupied through physical activity and play. This helps reduce restlessness during layovers or delays, giving families a more pleasant airport experience. The initiative reflects a growing focus on passenger comfort at regional airports, particularly for those travelling with young children.
”Travellers welcomed the addition warmly, appreciating how such small but meaningful upgrades can turn their journeys into smoother and happier ones.
