Chittoor police arrested a youth on the charge of murdering a woman from whom he had borrowed money as loans. The accused is addicted to cricket betting and has lost money, the police said.
According to police, L. Chandramma (33) of Peddamiddepalli in Pedda Panjani mandal used to eke out a living by doing tailoring work and organising chit funds.
The accused, J. Subramanyam, was a member of the chit fund organised by Chandramma. He had taken a loan of ₹40,000 from her, but lost all the money in cricket betting.
With Chandramma pestering the accused to repay the loan, Subramanyam decided to kill her.
He took Chandramma to a mango orchard near a local temple on a two-wheeler on March 30 and allegedly attacked her with an iron rod. He also allegedly slit her throat and disposed of the body in the Jagamarla forest.
The accused was remanded to judicial custody.
