Youth, minor girl’s suicide sparks tension between families in Chhindwara

Bhopal: A 21-year-old man and a minor girl allegedly died by suicide after jumping into a well in Chhindwara district Thursday evening, triggering tension between the two families and panic in the area.The incident took place in Surlakhapa village under Harrai police station limits. The deceased youth was identified as Vikas Uikey, 21, a resident of Surli village, while the girl was stated to be around 17 years old. Police said the two, who were reportedly in a relationship for a long time, allegedly jumped into the well late Thursday evening.After receiving information, Harrai police rushed to the spot along with a rescue team and divers.

The girl’s body was recovered first, while efforts to trace the young man continued for several hours. After nearly a six-hour search operation, his body was finally pulled out of the well around 11.40 pm.The incident sparked outrage among family members and villagers, leading to a tense atmosphere at the spot. Sources said a heated argument broke out between relatives of the two deceased, prompting police personnel to intervene and calm the situation before it escalated further.Police have registered a case of unnatural death and launched an investigation. Officials said they are probing all possible angles, including the alleged love affair and the circumstances leading to the deaths.
