AMRITSAR: A youth was allegedly shot dead in Shahura village following an old personal rivalry on Friday night. The deceased has been identified as Guravatar Singh, who was the only son of his parents.
The incident has triggered panic in the village, while the bereaved family remains in deep shock.According to police reports, Guravatar Singh had been involved in a rivalry with fellow friends and late last night, the accused arrived at their house on a motorcycle and called Guravatar Singh to come outside. As soon as he stepped out of the house, a heated argument broke out between the two sides.The family alleged that when the altercation escalated, the rivals pulled out pistols and opened fire on Guravatar Singh, shooting him multiple times.
He sustained critical gunshot injuries and collapsed on the spot.Family members immediately rushed the injured Guravatar Singh to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. After receiving information about the incident, police teams reached the spot and carried out an inspection of the crime scene. The body was taken into custody and sent for a post-mortem examination.Senior superintendent of police (Rural), Amritsar, Kanwalpreet Singh Chahal, said the incident stemmed from the sudden escalation of a verbal altercation among friends.
He said that Guravtar Singh's friends had gone to his house, and during the course of their conversation, the argument escalated, following which they allegedly opened fire, with one of the bullets striking Guravtar Singh in the thigh. He was rushed to a hospital but succumbed to his injuries before he could receive treatment. Chahal said the police have rounded up three to four persons for questioning and are continuing their investigation into the incident.
