COIMBATORE: BJP national women’s wing president and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) candidate for Coimbatore North assembly constituency, Vanathi Srinivasan, on Thursday said youngsters should understand that politics is much larger than social media platforms. “Politics is different from two-hour cinema narratives. Young people should think beyond their phones. Instagram is just a tool. Youngsters should exercise wisdom while making decisions,” she said. She was speaking to reporters after casting her vote with her son, Adarsh, at Kamarajar School on Dr Radhakrishnan Road in Tatabad, Sivananda Colony. “It is encouraging to see women and youngsters coming out in large numbers to vote.

It shows that they have strong faith in democracy,” she said.Vanathi alleged that DMK workers were attempting to influence voters in Coimbatore by using QR codes and promising gold and silver coins. “Even until this morning, such deceptive tactics were being used to mislead voters. They are trying every possible way to influence people,” she charged.Responding to a question on calls for cancelling the election in Coimbatore South constituency, she said NDA leaders shared similar concerns and alleged that democratic norms had been violated. She accused rival parties of attempting to mislead the Election Commission. When asked about actor Vijay and former BJP state president K Annamalai wearing similar attire, she dismissed the issue, saying it was a common style of dressing.
