YouTuber held for attacking cop and vandalising police station in Thiruvananthapuram

According to police, the accused had escaped from the police vehicle while being brought back to the station

T’puram: A 22-year-old YouTuber was arrested after allegedly attacking an inspector with an iron chair, vandalizing the Aryanad police station in Thiruvananthapuram and destroying official records late on Saturday night.Police identified the accused as Yadhu Krishnan, a native of Kulappada in Aryanad.According to police, Yadhu reached the police station carrying a liquor bottle and allegedly misbehaved with officers on duty before smashing the bottle inside the station. On receiving information, the inspector rushed to the station. By then, the accused had fled to a nearby hospital.When the officer reached the hospital, Yadhu allegedly lifted an iron chair and struck him on the head.

The officer sustained a deep head injury and was admitted to Kattakada taluk hospital, where he received six stitches. He is currently under observation and recovering.Police said the accused also tore up complaint petitions kept on a table inside the station and damaged the wireless antenna. He was later overpowered and taken into custody.Investigators said Yadhu had earlier been taken for medical examination but escaped from the police vehicle while being brought back to the station.

Police are yet to ascertain how he obtained the liquor bottle after escaping. Officials said the sequence of events would become clearer once the FIR is completed.Police sources said the accused had allegedly created similar disturbances at several places in the past. In one such incident, he allegedly assaulted the owner of a hotel at Charummoodu, but the case was later withdrawn after his family intervened.Police are also examining videos posted on an Instagram account allegedly operated by the accused, in which he is purportedly seen threatening police personnel. Police said his social media activity will form part of the investigation.Family members have reportedly informed police that Yadhu has been undergoing treatment for mental health issues. Police, however, said the investigation is continuing and the motive behind the incident is yet to be established.
