YouTuber Jacksepticeye slams YouTube moderation after Resident Evil Requiem gameplay gets age-restricted

YouTuber Seán McLoughlin has criticized YouTube after one of his gameplay videos was age-restricted while other videos from the same series were not. The creator was playing Resident Evil Requiem, the latest title in the popular horror franchise by Capcom.

According to Jacksepticeye, only the fourth video in his five-part Let’s Play series was restricted, even though all the videos showed similar gameplay and content.Age restriction on YouTube means viewers must sign in to confirm their age before watching the video. This can reduce the number of views because some people may not be able to watch it easily. It can also limit advertisements, which may affect how much money the video earns.

Jacksepticeye said the video was still doing well with around 1.4 million views, but he explained that age restrictions can still seriously hurt a video’s reach.

The issue started when YouTube first told Jacksepticeye that the restriction happened because of “inappropriate language.” The platform said the video might contain moderate profanity in the title, thumbnail, or throughout the video. However, the YouTuber said this explanation did not make sense.

Jacksepticeye Youtube situation is crazy

According to him, the title and thumbnail of the video did not include any swear words. He also said that his language in the video was similar to the other parts of the series, which were not restricted. Because of this, he felt confused about the reason behind the decision. After contacting his YouTube representative, Jacksepticeye received another explanation. This time, the platform said the video was restricted because it showed violent or graphic visuals.

The message mentioned that videos showing certain violent scenes, medical procedures, animal abuse, or some gaming violence could break YouTube’s Community Guidelines. The YouTuber said the situation showed a bigger problem with consistency. He explained that many other creators are also playing Resident Evil Requiem, which features intense action scenes like shooting zombies or using weapons against enemies.

However, many of those videos were not restricted.Jacksepticeye used the moment to explain how harmful age restrictions can be for creators. He even described it as “video homicide,” meaning it can severely damage how a video performs on the platform. So far, YouTube has not publicly responded to his criticism. However, it is important to note that Jacksepticeye is not the first YouTuber to voice his concerns regarding the inconsistent rules that moderators use. Over the years, various YouTubers have expressed that it is hard for them to comprehend the rules.
