The YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) on Tuesday (July 7, 2026) alleged large-scale irregularities in the Endowments Department and expressed concern over a series of alleged hundi thefts and declining temple revenue under the coalition government.

Former Minister Velampalli Srinivasa Rao, former MLA Malladi Vishnu, and other YSRCP leaders submitted two representations to the Endowments Commissioner at Gollapudi in Vijayawada on Tuesday, seeking an inquiry into the alleged irregularities and stronger protection of temple properties.

Addressing the media after meeting the Commissioner, the leaders questioned the silence of Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan over the reported incidents of theft in temples across the State.

Mr. Srinivasa Rao alleged that the parties in power today had strongly reacted to temple-related issues in the past; however, now that they are in power, they are failing to respond to reports of hundi thefts and alleged irregularities in the Endowments Department.

He also alleged that Endowments Department lands were being irregularly allotted and warned that the YSRCP would continue its legal battle to protect temple properties. The government should ensure transparency in temple administration and prevent misuse of endowment assets, he added. He urged the government to strengthen security at temples and initiate strict action against those responsible for any wrongdoing.

Mr. Vishnu said the party had submitted two separate complaints to the Endowments Commissioner, including one relating to the alleged treatment of priests and Vedic scholars at a temple. He claimed that despite complaints, no action had been taken against the officials concerned.

Questioning the decline in hundi collections despite an increase in pilgrim footfall, Mr. Vishnu stated that the government should explain whether the fall in revenue was due to administrative failures or irregularities in the handling of hundi collections.

The YSRCP leader further urged the government to fill vacant Veda Parayanam posts at Tirumala and effectively implement the Brahmin Corporation and Garuda welfare schemes.

Warning of intensified protests, the YSRCP leaders said the party would launch a State-wide agitation if the government failed to act on the complaints and ensure the protection of temples, temple properties, priests and devotees.
