Vijayawada: The YSRCP on Friday organised massive rallies and protests across the state to highlight what it described as the failures of the Chandrababu Naidu-led coalition govt during the last two years.
Party leaders and activists staged demonstrations in all constituencies across the state, alleging that the govt had failed to fulfil its election promises and had ignored the problems faced by different sections of society.Addressing the media, YSRCP state coordinator Sajjala Ramakrishna Reddy said the strong response to the Vennupotuku Rendellu protest programme reflected the anger among people against the coalition govt. He said people were vexed with the governance of Chandrababu Naidu and felt cheated as promises made during the elections remained unfulfilled, while welfare schemes introduced during the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy regime were either scrapped or diluted.Sajjala said people participated in large numbers in the protests despite restrictions imposed by the police, indicating their dissatisfaction with the govt’s functioning. He urged people to question the ruling dispensation during its house-to-house contact programmes over the status of promises made during the elections and why they were not implemented. The YSRCP leader alleged that the coalition govt had failed on multiple fronts and had not delivered the assurances given to people before the elections.
He criticised the reduction in beneficiaries under schemes such as Talliki Vandanam, pensions and Annadata Sukhibhava, claiming that several welfare initiatives were either not implemented or had been significantly diluted.Sajjala criticised the coalition govt’s Tirupati meeting, describing it as a publicity event that was disconnected from ground realities. He alleged that the govt’s claims of attracting investments worth Rs.
23 lakh crore were not supported by visible developments on the ground. He said that the Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy government raised around Rs. 3.30 lakh crore through borrowings over five years, while the Naidu govt had reportedly borrowed more than Rs. 3.50 lakh crore in two years. He said the previous govt continued welfare delivery through direct benefit transfer (DBT) despite challenges posed by covid-19. The YSRCP leader questioned the claims made by the govt regarding the free bus travel scheme and anna canteens, alleging that the numbers projected were exaggerated.
He also accused the govt of moving towards privatisation of health and education sectors, which Sajjala claimed were strengthened during the previous YSRCP regime.
