Former minister and YSRCP leader Ambati Rambabu has been sent to 14 days of judicial custody by the Guntur court and taken to Rajahmundry Central Prison over a case involving alleged derogatory comments about Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, according to the YSRCP legal cell.

He was arrested at his home in Vikas Nagar, Guntur, on Saturday after police surrounded the area and took him away in a police van, as reported by Guntur West DSP.

On Sunday, police increased security at Ambati Rambabu’s residence after Telugu Desam Party (TDP) activists allegedly vandalized the property.

A large group of TDP supporters gathered outside his house on Saturday night, reportedly damaging the residence and office, vandalizing vehicles, and setting some on fire. Police have now deployed extra personnel at his home and office in Vikas Nagar to prevent further trouble, following orders from Guntur District Superintendent of Police Vakul Jindal. TDP workers also protested at the YSRCP district president’s office, leading to heavy police presence and tense scenes in the city.

The protest was in response to alleged abusive remarks against Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu attributed to Ambati Rambabu. TDP supporters demanded a public apology and warned they would ask police to file a case if he did not apologize.

Opposition leader Botcha Satyanarayana tried to contact the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police about the situation but reportedly received no response, raising concerns about the government’s handling of the incident.

Afterward, YSR Congress Party president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy spoke to Ambati Rambabu by phone after he was targeted in what was described as a deliberate murder attempt by TDP members, according to an official statement.
