Former Bihar chief ministers Lalu Prasad Yadav and Rabri Devi have sent back all security personnel stationed outside their 10 Circular Road residence in Patna following a Bihar government order withdrawing their Z-plus security cover.
The development comes amid a dispute between the RJD and the state government over the withdrawal of security and the allotment of the family’s long-time official residence.
Reacting to the move, RJD leader Shakti Singh Yadav accused the government of targeting opposition leaders.
“Lalu Prasad and Rabri Devi, both have been former Chief Ministers. First, they were cheated regarding their house, then threatened to vacate it. The security of the entire family has been reduced. This is a conspiracy…they want to crush the opposition. There is no place for such politics in democracy…this is not acceptable to the people of Bihar…" he said.

Security Personnel Removed
Following the government’s decision, the remaining security personnel deployed outside the residence were asked to leave.
Row Over Official Residence
The development comes days after the Bihar government directed Rabri Devi to vacate the official bungalow at 10 Circular Road after allotting it to Bihar Minister for Animal and Fisheries Resources Nand Kishore Ram.
According to the government, Rabri Devi had already been allotted an alternative accommodation on Hardinge Road in her capacity as Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council but had not shifted there.
The state government has reportedly given the family 15 days to vacate the residence.
Government Defends Decision
Defending the government’s stand, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Chaudhary recently said official residences are public property and cannot be retained after a person’s tenure ends.
“The Chief Minister’s residence belongs to the people. It cannot be treated as anyone’s personal fiefdom or ancestral property," Chaudhary said during a public event in Sheikhpura.
He also said he had vacated government accommodation within 24 hours of leaving office.
Rabri Devi’s Response
Rabri Devi had earlier opposed the eviction notice. “They can call the force to vacate the place, but I will not vacate the place," she told reporters.
The Bihar government has asked the family to vacate the bungalow by mid-June.
