Zameer Ahmed Khan’s Base Protests For Cabinet Berth, Dy CM Post For Leader|Watch

Supporters of former cabinet minister Zameer Ahmed Khan have taken to the street asking for the position of Dy CM and a cabinet berth for their leader in a bid to pressure CM DKS.

Amid the ongoing realignment of Karnataka’s state government, jockeying of power has intensified as supporters of the influential former minister Zameer Ahmed Khan began a protest in Chitradurga district demanding a cabinet berth alongwith the position of Deputy Chief Minister. In videos circulating on social media, supporters of the leader were seen holding placards with images of Khan and shouting slogans.

After the formation of DK Shivkumar’s government, the cabinet positions were reshuffled. In the first phase, Khan had been left out. Now, with this move it appears the leader is seeking to build pressure on the grand old party’s (GOP) top brass on the streets.

He has reportedly met All India Congress Committee’s Chief Mallikarjun Kharge over the matter. Besides Kharge, Khan has also held meetings with former Chief Minister Siddaramiah and current Chief Minister DK Shivkumar’s brother DK Suresh.

Who Is Zameer Ahmed Khan

Zameer Ahmed Khan is believed to be a member of the former CM Siddaramaiah’s camp. However, now with DK Shivkumar firmly in the saddle, he could be angling for closer relations with the Chief Minister for a place in his cabinet.

Khan is a five-time MLA from Chamrajpet constituency in Karnataka assembly. He comes from an illustrious business family, in central Karnataka, that has been running the company – National Travels.

Khan started his career with the Janata Dal (Secular). He won his first election to the Karnataka assembly in 2004 from Chamrajpet constituency after defeating RV Devraj, the lieutenant of SM Krishna, who had held the seat till then. He was soon made a cabinet minister and held the portfolios responsible for Hajj and Waqf. In 2018, he was elected to the same constituency on a Congress ticket.

From HD Kumaraswamy to Siddaramaiah, Khan has been a cabinet minister under various governments. Now, it remains to be seen if his pressure from the street tactics will work.

What Has Been Happening In Karnataka

Pressure had been building on the Congress high command for some time now from the supporters of DK Shivkumar for the latter to get the position of Chief Minister. This was because of an apparent arrangement between him and the Congress high command that power in the state would be divided between Siddaramaiah and DKS for 2.5 years each.

Karnataka had brought Congress to power with a thumping majority in the last assembly election in 2026, with BJP and JD(S) being trounced resoundingly.

After much back and forth, finally the leadership of GOP handed the CM’s position to Shivkumar and several bigwig leaders of the party have been lobbying to secure a berth in the cabinet. Khan has been one of the most prominent faces among them.
