Ten government transformers were allegedly stolen in Uttar Pradesh’s Ghazipur, with suspected involvement of top-level officials, exposing serious corruption and negligence within the State Power Department.
The thefts, reported across multiple villages, went unaddressed for months despite a formal complaint, with no FIR registered during that period.
The incident came to light after Managing Director Shambhu Kumar ordered a departmental inquiry into the Electricity Distribution Division. The probe focused on the theft of transformers from areas under the Vasudevpur and Ben Sagar feeders and revealed significant lapses, along with suspected involvement of officials and staff within the sub-division.
Following the findings, strict action was initiated. Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO) Pramod Yadav and Junior Engineers Rajiv Gupta and Neeraj Kumar were suspended, while linemen Shivkumar and Ramesh were dismissed from service.
Superintending Engineer Vivek Khanna said the measures were necessary to address systemic failures and ensure accountability within the department. Officials added the action reflects a zero-tolerance stance on the misappropriation of government property.
