Two persons, including the car driver, were taken into custody after ramming the vehicle into pedestrians standing near a tea shop in Pune's Vishrambaug area.

At least 12 people have been injured after a car rammed into them near a tea stall in Pune’s Vishrambaug area on Saturday evening, according to police. The driver of the vehicle has been taken into custody.

The incident occurred at around 6 pm. Some pedestrians were standing outside a tea stall when a vehicle, while taking a turn, rammed into the people, causing serious injuries to some of them. The incident was captured on CCTV.

According to reports, the victims included a few students appearing for the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) examinations. A girl and four others sustained serious injuries to their legs and were immediately rushed to hospitals for treatment.

Two persons, including the car driver, were taken into custody, and their medical tests were being conducted to ascertain if they were under the influence, said senior inspector Vijaymala Pawar of Vishrambaug police station.

The owner was identified as Digambar Shinde, and the driver was Jairam Mule, who is suspected to have been drunk while driving the vehicle into bystanders and parked vehicles in Narayan Sai Tea Shop.

“This incident took place in the evening, when a cab hit 12 people, leaving them injured. We have arrested the accused driver and the owner of the car. A medical examination is being conducted," said Nikhil Pingle, DCP, Pune Police.
