In a significant step towards international cooperation, the Telangana government and Kitakyushu City of Japan signed a cooperative agreement on Monday (June 2) aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and promoting inclusive economic growth, zero-emission initiatives and urban innovation.

Welcoming the Japanese delegation led by Kitakyushu City Mayor Kazuhisa Takeuchi, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed delight and recalled his recent visit to Japan, where he had the opportunity to study the development model of Kitakyushu.

He noted that the city’s innovative eco-town model served as a major inspiration for Telangana’s plans as well. “We have signed agreements with several Japanese companies to replicate a similar eco-town model in Hyderabad,” he stated.

Highlighting the importance of the newly inked cooperative agreement, Mr. Revanth Reddy said he was optimistic that the collaboration would lead to the creation of a comprehensive ecosystem for sustainable economic development. “This partnership will help us achieve inclusive growth, zero-emission goals and foster urban innovation,” he added.

During the meeting, the Chief Minister also briefed the Japanese delegation on Telangana’s ongoing Musi River rejuvenation project, aimed at environmental conservation and economic asset creation.

He shared that there is a growing interest among Telangana students to learn the Japanese language, with many eager to explore employment and educational opportunities in Japan. Mr. Revanth Reddy requested support from the Japanese delegation to help train students in Japanese.

The CM also revealed plans to improve air connectivity between Hyderabad and Kitakyushu, stating that such links would bolster tourism, trade and exchange programmes.
