As many as 120 pairs of ‘Kodelu’ (bulls) were distributed to eligible farmers at goshala (cow shelter) of the historic Sri Raja Rajeshwara Swamy temple at Thippapur in Vemulawada on Wednesday.
The beneficiaries were selected by a committee comprising officials from Animal Husbandry, Endowments and Agriculture departments in a transparent manner.
It may be recalled that the ‘Kodelu free distribution programme’ was launched in 2024 to ease burden on the temple’s overcrowded goshala.
Devotees donate Kodelu to the presiding deity as part of the age-old ritual ‘Kode Mokku’ in Vemulawada, popularly referred to as ‘Dakshin Kashi’.
Addressing the beneficiaries at the goshala, Government Whip and Vemulawada MLA Adi Srinivas urged them to protect the Kodelu and use them solely for agricultural purposes. Any deviation from the stipulated norms would be dealt with sternly, he warned.
He said the State government had allotted 40 acres of land for the construction of a goshala at Marripalli in Vemulawada mandal.
A modern goshala would be constructed at the site, he said, adding that the foundation stone for the facility would be laid shortly.
Rajanna Sircilla Collector Garima Agrawal was among those present at the event.
