1st calendar in Manipuri language launched in Barak Valley

Silchar: In a first for the region, a Manipuri-language (Meitei) calendar was launched in Assam’s Barak Valley on Sunday, marking a milestone in the community’s efforts to preserve and promote its linguistic and cultural heritage.The initiative, undertaken by the Lakhipur district committee of the Manipuri Sahitya Parishad, was formally unveiled at a ceremony held at a Manipuri guesthouse in Konjeng Leikai, Lakhipur, on Sunday.The calendar, which features photographs of 12 distinguished personalities from the Manipuri community, has been designed exclusively for residents of Lakhipur. Officials said 450 copies have been printed in the first phase for local distribution.Parishad members described the launch as a “historic step” in reinforcing the Manipuri community’s cultural identity in the Barak Valley. “This is the first Manipuri-language calendar dedicated to Lakhipur, and it symbolises our collective pride in our heritage,” an official from the Parishad said.
