The State Election Commission has issued a draft notification allotting symbols to the political parties for the 2025 elections to local bodies in the State. Political parties have 15 days’ time to file objections, if any, State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan said on Saturday.
For the national parties, which find mention in Table 1 of the notification, the symbols are as follows: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) (Broom), Bahujan Samaj Party (Elephant), Bharatiya Janata Party (Lotus), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (Hammer, Sickle and Star), Indian National Congress (Hand) and National People’s Party (Book).
The symbols for the State parties, mentioned in Table 2 of the notification, are as follows: Communist Party of India (Ears of Corn and Sickle), Janata Dal (Secular) (Woman farmer carrying paddy on her head), Indian Union Muslim League (Ladder), Kerala Congress (M) (Two leaves), Kerala Congress (Auto-rickshaw), Revolutionary Socialist Party (Spade and Stoker).
Table 3 has symbols allotted to State parties of other States and Union Territories and registered unrecognised political parties having representation in the Kerala Legislative Assembly or in any of the Local Self Government Institutions in Kerala. The notification also contains a list of free symbols.
