A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped after a 24-year-old man dragged her into his house while she was walking to a flour mill in a village in Beed district of Maharashtra, police said on Wednesday.

The incident took place on Monday evening, following which police registered a case against the accused.

PTI quoted police saying that the girl was walking to a local flour mill when the accused intercepted her. He forcibly pulled her into a nearby house, assaulted and then raped her twice.

After the incident, the victim somehow managed to return home and informed her family about it. They rushed to the Ambajogai Rural police station and filed a complaint.

On the basis of the victim’s statement and her medical examination, the police registered a case against him under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.

Police said a widespread search has been launched to apprehend the accused.
