A 29-year-old man is fighting for his life at Mahatma Gandhi Memorial (MGM) Hospital, Warangal after reportedly undergoing a botched surgery for piles performed by two unqualified practitioners in Mangalavaripet village near Narsampet on November 13.
According to the Telangana Medical Council (TGMC), the man, identified as Rajinikanth, was operated upon by an elderly woman named Kausalya and a rural medical practitioner (RMP) identified as Chittibabu. Later the same night, he went into hypovolemic shock (severe blood loss) and was rushed to MGM Hospital at around 11 p.m. in a critical condition.
A team of doctors at the hospital performed an emergency procedure to control the bleeding. Following a complaint filed by the victim’s mother, TGMC officials visited the hospital on November 14. TGMC Public Relations Committee Chairman Naresh Kumar and District Anti-Quackery Committee member M. Dilip Kumar met the patient and collected details of the incident. The authorities have announced that an investigation will be taken up and cases will be registered against Kausalya and Chittibabu of Mangalavaripet.
The Council has cautioned the public against approaching RMPs for treatment. It reiterated that RMPs are not medically qualified and are not authorised to provide allopathic treatment, conduct laboratory tests or perform surgical procedures.
