Agra: Three people were killed and five, including a three-year-old child, injured after the MUV they were travelling in rammed a container truck from behind on the Agra-Lucknow Expressway on Sunday.
Police said the vehicle was speeding and the driver appeared to have dozed off at the wheel.The occupants, natives of Bihar's Banka district, had visited Ayodhya two days ago and were travelling to Churu in Rajasthan via Lucknow and Vrindavan when the accident occurred. The impact was so severe that the front portion of the MUV got lodged inside the truck and was dragged for nearly 30m.The deceased were identified as brothers Shankar Kumar, 34, and Sunil Kumar, 32, who performed music at religious functions and weddings, and their cousin, Preeti Kumari.
The injured were identified as driver Mohammad Soaib, 28, Raju Kumar, 33, his wife Pramila Kumari, 30, Ayansh, 3, son of Sunil Kumar, and Pooja Kumari, Sunil Kumar's wife.After receiving information about the accident, a team from Fatehabad police station reached the spot and rushed the injured to CHC Fatehabad. They were later referred to SN Medical College, Agra.Police said the container truck driver fled after the accident, abandoning the vehicle. Fatehabad ACP Imran Ahmed said, “The bodies were sent for postmortem examination. The damaged vehicles have been removed from the expressway and traffic is moving normally. We are trying to trace the truck driver.”
