4 workers die in Tripura brick kiln chimney collapse

Agartala: Three brick kiln workers died on the spot, and one died later in hospital, as the chimney of a kiln unexpectedly collapsed, falling on to those present on the ground in Kamalpur of Tripura’s Dhalai district on Wednesday morning.Three workers suffered serious injuries and were shifted to Agartala Govt Medical College hospital.The deceased workers were identified as Subal Debnath (55), Pinku Shil (37), Anil Gautam (49), and Sajal Malakar (40).According to police, the accident occurred at the brick kiln situated near Halahali block under Kamalpur. Work at the brick kiln had started as scheduled at 10am and was progressing well, but around an hour later, the chimney, positioned high above ground level, suddenly collapsed with a loud noise, the police said. The workers engaged in their daily tasks beneath the chimney were caught off guard and were crushed by its weight.
