A four-year-old girl was killed and three others injured after bricks fell from the fourth floor of an under-construction building onto a cement sheet shed in Bengaluru.

A four-year-old girl was killed and three others injured on Thursday after hollow bricks fell from the fourth floor of an under-construction building onto a cement sheet shed in Chinnappanahalli, under the HAL police station limits in Bengaluru.

The deceased was identified as Manushree. Her mother, Mamatha (30), along with two other children, Shreyan (6) and Shekhar (5), sustained injuries and are undergoing treatment at a private hospital in the city.

According to the police, the incident occurred between 3 pm and 3.30 pm when approximately 10 to 12 hollow bricks allegedly fell from the fourth floor of the under-construction building onto a cement sheet shed located adjacent to the structure.

The shed was being used as a temporary residence by labourers and their families, police added.

“All the victims are residents of Bhoragi village in Sindagi taluk of Vijayapura district," K Parshuram, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Whitefield), told news agency PTI.

“Preliminary inquiries revealed that the construction work at the site, being carried out by a person identified as Srinivasulu, was allegedly undertaken without adequate safety measures," the DCP said.

The building under construction is reportedly owned by Srinivasulu, and authorities were investigating whether negligence in following mandatory safety protocols contributed to the accident.

A case was registered at the HAL police station, and further investigations were ongoing, police said.

The victims’ family had moved from Vijayapura district and were living in the cement sheet shed for work-related reasons, the police added.
