Mehli Mistry files caveat against removal from Tata Trusts
Industrialist Mehli Mistry has filed a caveat petition before the Maharashtra Charity Commissioner, requesting that he be given “a fair hearing” before any formal move is made to remove him as a trustee of Tata Trusts. Mistry, a close confidant of the late Ratan Tata, was removed as a trustee of the Tata Trusts after the majority of the members voted against his re-appointment. While Noel Tata wants him out, two half-sisters of Ratan Tata, Shireen and Deanna Jeejeebhoy, are supporting Mistry and have gone on record expressing displeasure over the developments. Read more

FIR against Physics Wallah for ad showing SUVs driving through forest in Kashmir
An FIR has been registered against edtech giant Physics Wallah after an ad posted on social media triggered controversy. In the ad, Physics Wallah staff were seen driving through the Baderkote forests in Tangmarg near Baramulla’s Gulmarg. According to a complaint filed at the Tangmarg police station, the ad was shot by Physics Wallah by illegally entering into the forest area without any permission from any competent authority of the forest department. US courts halt deportation of Indian-origin man ‘Subu’ Vedam
Two US courts have ordered the immigration officials to halt the deportation of an Indian-origin man from Pennsylvania, Subramanyam ‘Subu’ Vedam, who was recently acquitted of murder charges. An immigration judge stayed his deportation, pending a review by the Bureau of Immigration Appeals of whether to review Vedam’s case, which could take several months. Subu had been serving a life sentence in a murder case of his friend’s death in 1980. He was released from prison on October 3, after spending more than 43 years in prison, but was immediately taken into immigration custody by ICE for deportation over a drug possession case when he was 20 years old. Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services train over 8K volunteers in swift response
The Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services has trained 8,804 people to provide emergency assistance to accident victims. As part of the programme, participants receive structured training in first response and emergency care, and through the Good Samaritan mobile application, they can coordinate with emergency services and provide critical support to victims until medical personnel take over. The Good Samaritan initiative is an extension of the Maharashtra Emergency Medical Services (EMS) network, empowering ordinary people to become informed first responders. Read more

Allahabad HC grants relief to man jailed in ‘fake’ anti-conversion case
The Allahabad High Court on Tuesday quashed an FIR lodged against a man under the Uttar Pradesh Prohibition of Unlawful Conversion of Religion Act, while stating that authorities are "falling and scrambling over each other to score brownie points" to take action in such cases. The court ordered the immediate release of the petitioner who has been in jail for over a month. The HC also imposed a cost of Rs 75,000 on the state, of which Rs 50,000 is to be paid to the petitioner and the remaining Rs 25,000 to be deposited with the Legal Aid Services of the court.
