Dhanbad: The 53rd Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Memorial Indoor Tournament (SSBMT) 2025, organised by the Central Institute of Mining and Fuel Research, kicked off on Wednesday.A total of 83 participants from various laboratories of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) are taking part in this prestigious sporting event.
The participating laboratories include CSIR–Central Road Research Institute (CRRI), New Delhi; CSIR–National Chemical Laboratory (NCL), Pune; CSIR–Central Building Research Institute (CBRI), Uttarakhand; CSIR–Indian Institute of Toxicology Research (IITR), Lucknow; CSIR–Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), Durgapur; and CSIR–National Institute of Oceanography (NIO), Goa.The ceremony began with the welcome of dignitaries and an impressive march-past by participants from different CSIR laboratories. This was followed by the lighting of the ceremonial lamp, symbolising unity, sportsmanship, and the light of knowledge.In his welcome address, Arvind Kumar Mishra, Director and Staff Club President, CSIR-CIMFR, expressed immense pride in hosting the 53rd edition of the tournament. He stated that the event is not merely a competition but a platform for collaboration, dialogue, and talent showcase, emphasising that true victory lies in teamwork, discipline, and honesty.
