COIMBATORE: Kuniyamuthur police arrested six individuals on Tuesday in Kovaipudur, seizing 1,200 drug pills and 700 grams of cannabis.The arrested persons are M Fiyaz Ali, 30; S Kavi Nilavan, 25; S Saranraj, 24; S Abdul Rahman, 23; M Nowfal, 25; and S Safeeq Ali, 33, all from Suguna Puram in Kuniyamuthur.A special team was formed following intelligence about drug peddling in the city. During a search near Kovaipudur, the team found the gang near a petrol bunk on Perur Main Road. Upon questioning, the individuals admitted to selling marijuana and drug pills to students and the public.A police officer from the special team stated that the six-member gang frequented various states to procure cannabis and drug pills, which they sold to youths, including students, in the city.
The officer added that they were also using the drugs themselves.The six arrested were handed over to the Kuniyamuthur police, who registered a case under Sections 20(b)(II)(A) and 22(b) of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act. Police seized 1,200 drug pills, 700 grams of ganja, and a mobile phone used for drug peddling. The individuals were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday evening.
