75 silver coins from the British era were unearthed during corridor construction.
Barabanki district of Uttar Pradesh witnessed a startling discovery when 75 silver coins, believed to be from the British era around 1882, were unearthed during construction work at Shri Lodheshwar Mahadeva Dham.
The coins surfaced while workers were digging the foundation of demolished houses as part of the temple corridor construction. According to officials, labourers initially found a clay pot filled with more than 100 silver coins. They reportedly began dividing the coins among themselves, but locals immediately alerted the police.
A joint team of revenue officials and police rushed to the site and seized the coins. “So far, 75 coins have been recovered. The rest are still being traced,” officials confirmed.
Joint Magistrate Gujita Agrawal said, “These coins appear to be from the British period. So far, 75 coins have been recovered. The Archaeological Department has been informed, and their team will conduct a detailed investigation.”
Authorities have now restricted entry into the area where the coins were found. Experts suggest the coins are approximately 140 years old and mark an important historical discovery.
What began as routine digging has unexpectedly opened a window into history. All eyes are now on the Archaeological Department’s investigation, which will reveal the true significance of the coins.
