In a revealing statement, Assam's Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma underscored a critical challenge facing the state: a staggering 90% of daily goods are imported, draining Rs 80 of every Rs 100 earned.

Dibrugarh: CM Himanta Biswa Sarmahas highlighted Assam’s economic dependency, revealing that a staggering 90% of daily-use products in the state are procured from other states.He made these remarks while distributing Rs 10,000 seed money to each women’s self-help group (SHG) members at Dinjoy Tea Estate in Chabua, Dibrugarh on Sunday.The CM expressed regret that Rs 80 out of every Rs 100 that the state earns through business goes to other states.“In Assam, we need 25 lakh litres of milk daily, whereas we produce only 3 lakh litres. The deficit 23 lakh litres are purchased from Bihar, Gujarat, and Karnataka,” Sarma said.He added that women entrepreneurs in states like Gujarat and Karnataka have built thriving dairy economies.“Today in Assam, Women SHGs are an organised force. If every SHG member involves themselves in production, they will become self-sufficient and independent,” he said.
