9 arrested in Jaisalmer over brutal murder of 19-year-old man

JAISALMER: Nine men have been arrested in Jaisalmer, Rajasthan, in connection with the murder of a 19-year-old man last Wednesday near the village of Kasam Khan in Ramdevra. The attack is believed to have been motivated by an illicit relationship with a widowed female relative and an old enmity.The victim, Manzoor Khan, son of Meera Khan, was driving a pickup truck to pick up labourers for crop harvesting when, about 100 metres from his home, two vehicles carrying 15–20 men blocked his path. The men were armed with sticks and hockey sticks. One of the vehicles, driven by Najeeb, son of Sadiq Khan, rammed into Manzoor’s truck, bringing it to a halt.According to the police report filed by Usman Khan, Manzoor was then dragged from his truck by the group and assaulted with kicks, punches, sticks, and hockey sticks, leaving him for dead before the attackers fled.The Ramdevra police registered a case immediately. Given the severity of the attack, special instructions were issued for a swift arrest. Multiple police teams, under the supervision of Mahadev Godara, Station Officer of Ramdevra Police Station, and Circle Officer Bhawani Singh of Pokaran, conducted coordinated investigations.On Saturday, nine suspects were detained and presented in court, where police custody remand was obtained. The arrested men are Mujibur Rahman, 41; Arshad Ali, 34; Waheed, 42; Aslam, 21; Bablu alias Ikramuddin, 28; Manzoor, 33; Shabbir Ahmed, 38; Islamuddin, 62; and Sher Khan alias Sher Mohammad, 68. Superintendent of police Abhishek Shivhare said that further interrogation and investigation are ongoing.
