Original Kiss guitarist Ace Frehley has died at 74 following a recent fall that caused a brain bleed. The musician, known for his galactic makeup and smoking guitar, passed away peacefully in New Jersey. His death marks the first among Kiss's founding members, leaving a significant void in rock history.
Ace Frehley, the original lead guitarist and founding member of the glam rock band Kiss, who captivated audiences with his elaborate galactic makeup and smoking guitar, died on Thursday (Oct.
16). He was 74. Frehley died peacefully, surrounded by family in Morristown, New Jersey, following a recent fall, according to his agent.

“We are completely devastated and heartbroken. In his last moments, we were fortunate enough to have been able to surround him with loving, caring, peaceful words, thoughts, prayers, and intentions as he left this earth," the family said in a statement shared with People. "We cherish all of his finest memories, his laughter, and celebrate his strengths and kindness that he bestowed upon others.
The magnitude of his passing is of epic proportions and beyond comprehension.

Ace Frehley's cause of death is not immediately known. However, he suffered a brain bleed from a fall in his home studio several weeks ago, according to multiple reports.According to a TMZ report, the incident occurred a couple of weeks ago, in late September, when Frehley slipped in his Manhattan recording studio, striking his head and causing an intracranial hemorrhage.
An intracranial hemorrhage, also known as a brain bleed, is a type of stroke. It causes blood to pool between the brain and skull. It prevents oxygen from reaching the brain. This is life-threatening and requires quick treatment for the best outcome. Brain bleeds are common after falls or traumatic injuries. The severity of a brain bleed depends on its size, cause, location inside the skull, and the amount of time between the bleed and treatment.

The brain bleed led to his rapid health decline, forcing him to cancel a planned tour and several performances.On Sept. 25, Frehley told his fans about the fall. He also informed that he would need to cancel a performance scheduled for the next day in Lancaster. Calif. According to that statement shared on Instagram, the fall was 'minor', and it also said the star was 'fine', however, couldn't travel for the show, as the doctor advised rest.
“Ace looks forward to continuing on his tour and finishing work on his next album, Origins Vol. 4,” the statement read.However, on Oct. 6, the star canceled the rest of his 2025 tour dates, 'due to ongoing medical issues'. The guitarist was on a ventilator for some time and breathed his last on Oct. 16. Meanwhile, Kiss' original lineup included Frehley, singer-guitarist Paul Stanley, tongue-wagging bassist Gene Simmons, and drummer Peter Criss.
Frehley’s is the first death among the four founding members. In a joint statement, Simmons and Stanley said, “We are devastated by the passing of Ace Frehley. He was an essential and irreplaceable rock soldier during some of the most formative foundational chapters of the band and its history.
He is and will always be a part of KISS’s legacy.”
