Greta Thunberg was detained under the UK’s Terrorism Act at a “lock-on” protest linked to Palestinian detainees.

Greta Thunberg's arrest took place during a protest organised by Prisoners for Palestine.
British police arrested Swedish climate activist Greta Thunberg during a demonstration in London held in support of pro-Palestinian hunger strikers. The arrest took place during a protest organised by Prisoners for Palestine, which said Greta Thunberg was detained under the UK’s Terrorism Act at a “lock-on" protest linked to Palestinian detainees.
“Greta Thunberg was arrested under the Terrorism Act at the Prisoners for Palestine lock-on protest," the group said in a statement.
According to organisers, the demonstration was held in solidarity with activists currently imprisoned on charges including alleged support for the banned Palestine Action group. Palestine Action was proscribed by the British government earlier this year.
Prisoners for Palestine said Greta Thunberg was holding a placard reading, “I support the Palestine Action prisoners. I oppose genocide," at the time of her arrest.
British police have not yet issued a detailed statement on the circumstances of the arrest or whether formal charges have been filed.
