Afghanistan made a statement in the third and final ODI against Bangladesh on Tuesday, October 14, crushing the visitors by 200 runs at Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. After posting a competitive total of 293 for 9 in their 50 overs, the Afghan bowlers ran through Bangladesh’s lineup, dismissing them for just 93 in 27.1 overs. Young pacer Bilal Sami starred with a sensational performance, taking 5 wickets for 33 runs in only 7.1 overs during his second ODI appearance. Rashid Khan also played a key role, returning figures of 3 for 12 in six overs. This victory marked a historic moment as Afghanistan became the first team to win an ODI by 200 or more runs at Abu Dhabi. The previous record at the venue was held by South Africa, who defeated Ireland by 174 runs on October 4, 2024.

In the context of Afghanistan’s overall ODI history, their largest winning margin remains 232 runs against Zimbabwe at Harare Sports Club on December 19, 2024. Bilal Sami’s five-wicket haul also made him the second specialist pacer from Afghanistan to claim a fifer in ODIs and the ninth Afghan bowler overall to achieve the feat. Before him, the only other specialist pacer with a five-wicket haul was Hamid Hassan. Rashid Khan continues to dominate with the ball, boasting six five-wicket hauls in ODIs, while Allah Ghazanfar follows with two in 14 matches.
