The Shivamogga police have begun a special drive to identify persons who had engaged in unruly behaviour during festive seasons in the past and warn them, ahead of the Gowri Ganesh and Id-Milad festivals.

Across the district, police officials are summoning rowdy-sheeters and those having a history of engaging in communal violence to police stations, and warning them of strict action if they take part in similar activities in the future. The police are identifying these people with the help of video clips captured during Gowri Ganesha and Id-Milad celebrations earlier.

A communique from the Superintendent of Police of Shivamogga, issued on Thursday, stated that the officials have warned them against engaging in illegal activities. Besides that, the police would also keep a watch on such people and take appropriate action if they violate the law in any manner in the coming days, it stated.

Incidents of violence were reported in the Ragi Gudda locality of Shivamogga during the Id-Milad procession in 2023.
