Ahead of the Pongal festival, the Tamil Nadu government announced bonuses for the year 2024-25 and Pongal gifts for various categories of its employees, on Thursday (January 1, 2026). The bonuses and gifts would benefit over 9.90 lakh employees, with the exchequer incurring an expenditure of ₹183.86 crore, according to an official release.
On the directions of Chief Minister M.K. Stalin, the State government announced a bonus (subject to a ceiling of ₹3,000) for ‘C’ and ‘D’ Group employees and teachers.
It also announced special ad hoc bonus of ₹1,000 for full- and part-time employees, paid from contingencies at fixed monthly rates, and employees on consolidated pay/special time-scale of pay who have worked continuously for at least 240 days or more during the accounting year 2024-2025.
It further announced a Pongal gift amount of ₹1,000 to pensioners who retired from the ‘C’ and ‘D’ Group categories, family pensioners, and former employees of village establishments.
