Ahmedabad: Electric loco shed in Vatva gets CII recognition

Ahmedabad: The Electric Loco Shed at Vatva under Western Railway’s Ahmedabad Division has been awarded the GreenCo rating by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII)-Green Business Centre (GBC).

The award will be given at the 15th GreenCo Summit 2026 in New Delhi.Divisional railway manager Ved Prakash said this is the first time an electric loco shed in Western Railway received the rating. GreenCo is an Indian evaluation framework that assesses environmental performance across parameters such as energy efficiency, water conservation, renewable energy, greenhouse gas reduction, waste management, materials conservation, recycling, green supply chains, green infrastructure and environmental innovation.The Vatva shed reported a complete shift from diesel-based operations to electric traction, reducing diesel consumption to zero and cutting emissions by nearly 100%. Initiatives also include solar power deployment, rainwater recharge systems, zero wastewater discharge practices, LED and sensor-based lighting, and a ‘zero waste to landfill’ approach apart from other such measures.
