The Ahmednagar railway station has been renamed as Ahilyanagar, honouring the legacy of Lokmata Devi Ahilya Bai Holkar. The change comes after the Union Home Ministry cleared a Maharashtra Government proposal issued last week.

With this, the station’s name is now in sync with the district, which was officially renamed Ahilyanagar earlier this year, said officials from Central Railway, confirming the update on Tuesday (September 16, 2025), adding that the station code ANG will remain the same.

The decision follows repeated appeals from local groups and citizens, as well as a letter by Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar to Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw last month.
