AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami on Wednesday yet again called upon his party functionaries to remain vigilant during the conduct of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral roll in the State.
Addressing a meeting of secretaries of the district units of the party at the headquarters in Chennai, Mr Palaniswami reasoned that as the operation was being carried out through employees of the State government, if the party volunteers found any discrepancy in the way SIR was executed or in the electoral roll, they should fix the blame on the DMK, the ruling party in the State, according to a senior leader.
The general secretary explained issues that were likely to arise in urban agglomerations such as Chennai and wanted his colleagues to be alive to them. He had also referred to such issues concerning a couple of assembly constituencies in Chennai, the leader said, adding that there was no reference to the recent action of Mr Palaniswami to expel senior leader K.A. Sengottaiyan from the organisation.
Meanwhile, D. Jayakumar, organisation secretary of the party, made light of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s resolve of making its founder Vijay the candidate for the post of Chief Minister. Mr Jayakumar said it was “natural” for any party to do so.
