AICC assigns new role to Chandy Oommen

Just days after expressing dissatisfaction over the recent KPCC reorganisation, Puthuppally MLA Chandy Oommen was on Wednesday given a new assignment by the All Indian Congress Committee (AICC).

While Mr. Oommen has been appointed Talent Hunt Coordinator for Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, Shama Mohammed, the Congress spokesperson from Kerala, has been entrusted with the charge of Goa. AICC research coordinator George Kurian will oversee Kerala.

Party sources said the AICC move stemmed from an attempt to accommodate the leaders who had voiced discontent over the KPCC revamp. Mr. Oommen had publicly expressed his resentment on being overlooked during the recent revamp of the KPCC.

Insiders attributed his outburst to a long-standing rift with Shafi Parambil and Rahul Mamkootathil, which reportedly began after he was relieved of his duties in the Youth Congress national outreach cell.
