India’s most extravagant train has set off on a once-in-a-lifetime spiritual journey, the Ram Yatra Ram Katha. This yatra will retrace the sacred path Lord Rama is believed to have taken during his 14-year exile. The journey, which began on October 24 from Delhi’s Safdarjung Railway Station, will cover over 8,000 km across India and conclude on November 5.
It will travel across several Indian states, from Ayodhya (in Uttar Pradesh) to Sri Lanka, and includes many ancient and sacred sites associated with events from the Ramayana. A video recently shared on Instagram has gone viral, giving viewers an inside look at this opulent pilgrimage. The clip features two men documenting their experiences on the lavish train, highlighting the luxurious experience during this spiritual journey.
The video also showcases the passengers’ traditional welcome, delicious vegetarian meals, pristine coaches, and vibrant cultural performances set to dhol beats.
What’s In The Video?
The video opens with a man describing, “Ye hai Bharat ki pehli aisi train jo sakchi hone wali hai, duniya ki mahan yatra, Ram Yatra ki. (This is India’s first train to the world’s most important pilgrimage, the Ram Yatra.)"
The duo reveal they will spend nine days aboard the train as it travels from Chitrakutdham to Rameshwaram, after which passengers will continue to Colombo by air and return to Ayodhya. Renowned spiritual leader Murari Babu will narrate the sacred tales of Lord Rama at each holy site along the route.
They said, “Ye train nahi chalti firti 5-star hotel hai. Hum bitane wale hai is train m 9 din. Hum nikal rahe hai ek aisi aithasik yatra pe jo aajtak kisine nahi ki hai. Ram Yatra par. Aur is yatra ke dauran hum un sabhi pavitra sthano pe jayenge jaha prabhu Shri Ram ne apne vanvas ke dauran kadam rakhe the. Is dauran pujiye murari babu 8,000 km ki duri tay krenge (This is not a train, it’s a 5-star hotel on wheels. We’re going to spend nine days on this train. We’re going on a pilgrimage like no other- The Ram Yatra. During this journey, we will visit all the sacred places where Lord Rama set foot during his exile. During this journey, the revered Murari Babu will cover a distance of 8,000 kilometres)."
“Aur har ek sthan pe prabhu Shri Ram ke pavan katha ka varnan karenge. Chitrakutdham se Rameshwaram tak hum jyenge ye train se fir Rameshwaram se Colombo aur Colombo se Ayodhya tak hawai marg se. Bolo Jai Siya Ram. (And at each location, he will narrate the sacred story of Lord Shri Ram. We will travel from Chitrakutdham to Rameswaram by train, then from Rameswaram to Colombo, and from Colombo to Ayodhya by air. Jai Siya Ram," he added.
The Ram Yatra Journey: Check Route
This spiritual journey covers the Ram Van Gaman Path, the legendary route Lord Rama, Sita, and Lakshmana crossed during their exile. Pilgrims on this train will visit numerous holy sites across multiple states, including Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, before proceeding to Sri Lanka.
The Ram Yatra Journey: Travel Dates
This train departed from Safdarjung Railway Station, Delhi, on October 24 at 7:00 PM and will complete the Ram Yatra Ramkatha by reaching Delhi on November 5 at 10:00 AM. The train will depart from Rameshwaram at 05:00 PM on October 31 and reach Ayodhya at 09:00 PM on November 1.
The Ram Yatra Journey: Facilities
The “moving 5-star hotel" lives up to its reputation, offering unarmed security guards in each passenger coach, CCTV surveillance in common areas, comfortable seating and well-maintained interiors, fresh linen and daily sanitisation and vegetarian breakfast, lunch, and dinner served as per the itinerary.
