An alert has been sounded at Penuganchiprolu, Keesara and other villages in NTR District on Thursday (October 30) after Munneru stream swelled due to the incessant rains upstream. Police, Revenue, NDRF and SDRF teams were monitoring the flood situation using drones.
Nandigama MLA Tangirala Sowmya, Commissioner of Police S.V. Rajashekar Babu, Collector G. Lakshmisha and other officers visited Penuganchiprolu village. “Drones were being used to monitor the flow of Munneru stream. Police pickets have been arranged to prevent villagers from crossing the overflowing streams and rivulets,” Mr. Rajashekar Babu told The Hindu.
Locals said the streams were in spate at the low-level bridge between Penuganchiprolu and Madhira, Lingala causeway and also between Penuganchiprolu and Vatsavai, disrupting traffic between A.P. and Telangana.
Many streams were overflowing in Khammam, Warangal, Bhadradri-Kothagudem and other districts of Telangana owing to Cyclone Montha, the officials said.
“About 50 families were shifted to rehabilitation centres as flood water entered villages. NDRF 10th Battalion and SDRF teams have been deployed in the villages as a precautionary measure,” the Commissioner of Police said.
