The Andhra Pradesh Crime Investigation Department (CID), which is probing the case pertaining to alleged embezzlement of offerings made to the Tirumala Srivari Hundi, known as ‘Parakamani scam’, set up a temporary office at Sri Padmavati rest house here on Wednesday.
A 20-member team led by Director-General of Police (CID) Ravi Shankar Ayyanar will start the probe by observing and understanding the way in which the Parakamani (the counting of coins, currency notes and offerings made into the Hundi) functions. The CID is expected to study the possible role of the former TTD officials, trust board members, police personnel, Parakamani staff and the supervisors allotted by the Jeeyar Mutt, who are said to have been involved in the issue.
The CID will also examine the scope of the irregularities allegedly happened and if the due diligence was followed.
Mr. Ayyanar said the probe, which was launched at the behest of the High Court, would closely study the Parakamani operations, supervision by the administrators, CCTV records, financial statements and the properties donated to the TTD.
Efforts are on to trace the main accused, C.V. Ravi Kumar, who represented the Jeeyar Mutt and had been associated with the institution since 1980. Hinting at his possible location in Hyderabad, Mr. Ayyanar said the CID would delve into the finer details pertaining to the properties worth ₹14 crore donated by him to the TTD, though their collective market value is estimated to be around ₹40 crore.
Mr. Ayyanar appealed to the public to share information pertaining to the case, assuring to maintain confidentiality. The public can dial 9440700921 or send emails to [email protected].
