Amazon CEO Andy Jassy visits India as tech giant expands ‘Amazon Now’ to 300 cities

Amazon has announced that it is planning to build India’s largest “delivery in minutes” network and for this, the e-commerce giant is rapidly scaling its ultra-fast service, Amazon Now, to over 300 cities across the country.

The expansion marks a milestone for Amazon Now, which has officially become the fastest-growing e-commerce business unit in Amazon India’s history, with orders doubling every single quarter since its launch, the company claims. For this quick-commerce push, Amazon CEO Andy Jassy visited India, and visited a micro-fulfillment center that drives the company's ultra-fast delivery infrastructure. What originally started as a localised experiment in India is now being expanded to several countries across the globe, the company added.

How Amazon plans to scale up ‘Amazon Now’

Amazon Now is already serving over 50 million customers across 15 metro and non-metro cities, including Bengaluru, Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, Pune, Hyderabad, Amritsar and Kochi, the company said. Under the new expansion blueprint, Amazon will scale up its specialised network of urban and micro-fulfillment centers that will house an expanded selection of tens of thousands of daily essentials, including fresh fruits, vegetables, frozen foods, personal care items, fashion, beauty products, and small home appliances.

These will be all available for delivery within minutes or a few hours.
