The song, "Lift Every Voice and Sing", has been sung at the NFL after the outrage over the death of George Floyd in 2020.

The NFL has since allowed teams to have performers sing the song as a part of Black national anthem but now, fans are not happy about it.Many feel the NFL is trying to “divide” the country. A fan by the username @SimulatedLion wrote, “The NFL is supposedly for fighting against racism, but having a "Black National Anthem" is the most racist sh*t I've ever seen.”Another fan by the username @KingMadTaz wrote, “As a black man why do we need to hear Lift Every Voice it’s not the national anthem. This whole thing is racist and stupid.”Another fan by the username @BigJGerrymander wrote, “Why don’t they just sing whatever country’s national anthem they came from? I turned off the game after this bullsh*t.”A fifth fan by the username @foolofating666 noted, “That’s what that was.

It was so terrible and forgetful and embarrassing. Absolute disgrace the NFL is.” Another fan by the username @kat_maryb posted, “Why does anybody still watch the NFL? We should have a nationwide boycott to teach them a lesson.”

The NFL has remained silent on the controversy

Laurin Talese has not commented on the controversy yet but she has expressed her gratitude for being given the chance to perform. She said, "I'm feeling so excited and honored…I'm really excited to see what it's going to feel like. ... I love feeling the pulse of the city, but I've never been to a game. So, this is my entrance. This is my foray into real-life Eagles fandom, and being able to really be a part of it, like, what better way? It's kind of crazy, actually."
