Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge on Tuesday slammed Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the blast in Delhi’s Red Fort which claimed 10 lives, calling him “the most incompetent Home Minister in independent India” and demanding his resignation.

He said that the incident raised serious concerns about national security and accountability.

Kharge questioned why Shah was not being held accountable for repeated security failures. “In any other state or country, he would have been thrown out of the Cabinet. But he is indispensable because he shares all the secrets of Mr Modi,” he said.

Alleging lapses in national security, he cited Pulwama, Manipur, and other incidents across states and asked, “Whose responsibility is it to protect the borders, Mr Gandhi’s or Mr Kharge’s? It’s his duty as Home Minister.” Kharge said Shah must first resign if there is to be any further discussion on the matter.

Karnataka Industries Minister MB Patil called the explosion “a heinous act” and said that the nature of the incident must first be clarified by the Centre. “If it is indeed a terrorist act, then we must get to the bottom of it, trace the entire chain, and act against those responsible,” he said. Calling it a “clear failure of security,” Patil pointed to the reaction after the Rameshwaram Caf blast in Bengaluru and said accountability must now be fixed at the Centre too.

He added that whether it was a terror attack or a chemical explosion, the scale of the incident near a high-security zone reflected a serious security lapse. He also said that the immediate priority should be ensuring support for victims and their families.
