A fatal road accident occurred near Andhra Pradesh's NTR district on Saturday after a fly ash tanker allegedly lost control and overturned onto a BMW car.

According to preliminary information, the tanker reportedly suffered a brake failure while approaching the toll gate. It rammed into a car from behind before toppling over it, completely crushing the vehicle.

Police confirmed that P Srinivasa Rao, an advocate from Guntur who was travelling in the car, died in the accident.

Rescue operations proved challenging as the tanker fell directly over the car. Police, along with toll plaza staff, carried out intensive efforts for over two hours to remove the heavy vehicle and access the crushed car. Cranes were later deployed to lift the tanker and retrieve the body.

Authorities shifted the deceased’s body to the Nandigama government hospital mortuary for post-mortem.

Officials said they will confirm the exact sequence of events after examining CCTV footage from the toll plaza. However, prima facie findings suggest brake failure of the tanker led to the mishap.

Police have registered a case and launched further investigation.
