Angel Reese chose not to address the controversy swirling around her suspension. Instead, the Chicago Sky forward shifted the conversation in a different direction. Just hours after the team announced she would sit the first half of Sunday’s game against the Las Vegas Aces, Reese resurfaced on social media.
Her focus wasn’t on the punishment or the fallout but on celebrating her appearance on the cover of NBA 2K26.
Chicago Sky star Angel Reese ignores suspension chatter
The Chicago Sky’s decision followed a turbulent week. On Thursday, the WNBA suspended Reese for Friday’s matchup against the Indiana Fever after she picked up her eighth technical foul of the season. The following day, Chicago added its own disciplinary measure, citing her critical remarks in a Chicago Tribune interview where she questioned the roster and hinted at a possible future away from the franchise.
“The Chicago Sky values the safety, respect, and well-being of every player,” the organization said in a statement. “Because of the statements detrimental to the team made by Angel Reese during league-mandated media, she will not play in the first half of the game on September 7 against the Las Vegas Aces. This matter has been handled and resolved internally, and we are moving forward as a team.”
Reese, meanwhile, kept quiet about the team’s disciplinary actions.
Her first post instead spotlighted NBA 2K26, where she graces the cover. “Happy 2kDay! So grateful & thankful to be the cover of NBA2k26. Literally a dream come true. 🙏🏽🥺,” she wrote on X.
What landed Angel Reese in trouble?
In her Tribune comments, Reese didn’t hold back on the state of the franchise. “I am very vocal about what we need and what I want,” she said. “I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.
But while I am here, I’m going to try to stay open-minded about what I have here and maximize that as much as I can.”Also Read: Angel Reese's Net Worth in 2025: Breaking down her WNBA salary, endorsements, and business ventures and moreThe 23-year-old forward has been a bright spot in an otherwise bleak season for Chicago, averaging 14.7 points and a league-leading 12.6 rebounds per game.
