Panaji: The Anjuna panchayat on Wednesday issued a stop-work order to Daniel Lobo following strong objections from locals over ongoing construction within the no-development zone (NDZ) along the beach. The panchayat plans to conduct a site inspection on Saturday and has directed that all construction work be stopped immediately. Daniel is the son of BJP legislators Michael and Delilah Lobo.Daniel, who also serves as the Parra sarpanch, is allegedly constructing an anti-sea protection wall on his property in Anjuna.RG president Manoj Parab, and villagers, visited the site near Anjuna beach to highlight the alleged violations of coastal regulation zone (CRZ) and NDZ norms.
“Michael Lobo’s son purchased this property and got the land converted. It was Michael Lobo who destroyed Calangute and Candolim. Now, the same is happening in Siolim and Anjuna,” said Parab.Siolim MLA Delilah Lobo rushed to her son’s defence. “This is our family property. We have permissions from the CRZ and WRD. Secondly, it is not taxpayers’ money that we are spending. We have deposited our own funds with the WRD, which are being used to build the anti-erosion wall,” said Delilah.
