Andhra Pradesh Retired Employees Association’s Joint Action Committee State Chairman Chowdary Purushottam Naidu appealed to the Chandrababu Naidu-led government on Thursday to restore the pension benefits that were reduced by the previous government.

Addressing the media, Mr. Purushottam Naidu highlighted that during Mr. Naidu’s earlier tenure (2014-2019) the quantum of pension was enhanced to 10% for employees aged between 70 and 75 years and was 15% for persons above 75 years.

He said: “However, the previous YSRCP government reduced the additional quantum of pension to 7% from 10% for retired staff aged between 70 and 75 years. They also reduced pension for retired staff above 75 years to 12% from 15% in spite of strong objections from the association which is affiliated to the APNGOs Association.

Mr. Purushottam Naidu and other members of the association submitted a memorandum to Special Chief Secretary Muddada Ravichandra at the Chief Minister’s Office, Amaravati and requested him to bring their grievance to the notice of the Chief Minister as he had previously approved a hike during his earlier term.

He said: “Senior retirees face increased medical expenses due to age-related complications and deserve higher pensions. The hike would benefit 70,000 retirees immediately and help around 3.3 lakh other retired staff when they reach 70 years. The financial implication for the government would be around ₹120 crore.”

“We are hopeful that the Chandrababu Naidu-led government will respond positively,” said Mr. Purushottam Naidu.
