Young Indian golfer Ranveer Mitroo at APGC Junior Championship
Delhi native Ranveer Mitroo posted another two-under 69, helping India go tied second in the boys’ team competition alongside compatriot Krish Chawla after the second round of the Asia-Pacific Golf Confederation (APGC) Junior Championship at the Hong Kong Golf Club on Wednesday.
With a combined score of one-under 283, the Indian duo trails leaders Parin Sarasmut and Warut Boonrod of Thailand by six strokes. The Indian Golf Union (IGU) has sent a four-member team to this prestigious APGC tournament.
Individually, Ranveer held his fourth position in the boys’ competition. Krish improved from his overnight tied 16th place, carding a two-over 73 to end the round in sole 15th position with an overall total of three-over 145. Thailand’s Parin Sarasmut shot a five-under 66, tying him with Vietnam’s Tuan Anh Nguyen at eight-under 134.
After five pars, Ranveer birdied the sixth hole from five feet, having landed 15 yards short of the flag in the right rough. However, the 16-year-old bogeyed the next hole but recovered with consecutive birdies on the eighth and ninth holes. On the back nine, he birdied holes 14, 17, and 18, offsetting a double bogey on the 10th and a bogey on the 12th hole.
Reflecting on his round, Ranveer said: “Round 2 was great but I made a lot of mistakes. I made six birdies, one double bogey, and two bogeys. I shot 69 (-2) again and am in fourth place out of 32 amateurs after two rounds. I was decent off the tee and with my approach, and had good putting and chipping, but dropped a lot of shots from close range today."
In the girls’ individual event, Saanvi Somu carded a three-under 69, moving up to a joint ninth position. Compatriot Kashika Mishra had a challenging round of 10-over 82 while dealing with a viral fever.
The Indian pair of Kashika and Saanvi were ranked seventh with a combined score of 11-over 299 after Round 2. In the mixed team event, the Indian pair of Krish and Saanvi were in a tied 10th position at five-over 289.
