Arrangements in place for counting, says State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan

The results of the 2025 local body elections are expected to be declared by 2 p.m. on Saturday (December 13), State Election Commissioner A. Shajahan has said.

Addressing a press conference here on Thursday in connection with the conclusion of the two-phased polling, Mr. Shajahan said that arrangements are in place for the counting of votes on Saturday. Counting will begin at 8 a.m.

The State Election Commission (SEC) has arranged 244 polling stations across the State for the counting of the votes polled in the elections to the grama panchayats, block panchayats, district panchayats, municipalities and the six Corporations. The postal ballots for the district panchayats will be counted in the chambers of the 14 District Collectors.

On counting day, the initial trends are expected to be out by 8.30 a.m. “We expect that 100% results can be announced by 2 p.m.,” Mr. Shajahan said.

Among the districts, Ernakulam has the highest number of counting centres, 28, followed by Malappuram, 27. Wayanad has the lowest number—7—of polling stations. The district-wise break-up of the polling stations is as follows— Kasaragod - 9, Kannur - 20, Wayanad - 7, Kozhikode - 20, Malappuram - 27, Palakkad - 20, Thrissur - 24, Ernakulam - 28, Alappuzha -18, Idukki - 10, Kottayam - 17, Pathanamthitta - 12, Kollam - 16, and Thiruvananthapuram -16.
